STEP的试题通常会包含较为复杂的等式变换和计算，需要考生持之以恒的完成解答。
STEP三卷的难度不同：
卷一是最简单的，它的范围就是A-level的大纲，只是难度稍微难一些。
卷二的范围也是A-level普通数学，但是难度比卷一高。
卷三的范围是Further Math高等数学，难度是最大的。
STEP I, STEP II 和STEP III 的区别
STEP I 主要考察的还是A-Level 数学的内容，具体考试内容包括: the first contains 8 pure questions, and the second contains 2 mechanics questions and 1 probability question.
STEP II 主要考察的是A-Level 数学和AS阶段的进阶数学，具体考试内容包括：the second contains 2 mechanics questions, and the third contains 2 probability/statistics questions.
STEP III 的内容最难，会考察整个A-Level阶段的数学和进阶数学，具体内容：the first contains 8 pure questions, the second contains 2 mechanics questions, and the third contains 2 probability/statistics questions.
