AIME和AMC都是美国参加国际数学奥林匹克（IMO）国家队选拔赛的一部分。中国数学会普委会、《中学生数学》编辑部将这两项比赛介绍到中国，并在北京地区成立了AMC北京俱乐部。AMC是美国数学协会（MAA）组织的美国高中数学竞赛的简称，全美数学竞赛AMC是American Mathematics Competitions的简写。其成绩优秀者将有资格参加美国高中数学邀请赛（简称AIME，American Invitational Mathematics Examination），含金量很高。开始于1983年，2000年起AIME增加一场比赛，分为AIME I和AIME II两场。
AMC10和AMC12的优胜者会被邀请参加，参加标准为:AMC10成绩排名全球前2.5%;或AMC12成绩排名全球前5%。AIME竞赛成绩优异者会被进一步邀请参加美国数学奥林匹克竞赛USAMO，进而再通过暑期集训筛选出最终的6位IMO国际数学奥林匹克竞赛国家队成员。
AIME I竞赛时间：一般在每年的2月份或3月份。
AIME竞赛形式：AIME考试形式为15题简答题，答案为0-999之间的整数，不需要解题过程，直接填写答案。每题一分。
AIME作为美国数学邀请赛，拥有参赛资格的高中生也都是数学方面的佼佼者。作为含金量很高的数学竞赛之一，对于学生有意申请理工类大学专，是多有助益的！
