John Locke论文竞赛评审全部来自牛津大学，每年举办一次。因其学科范围广、选题深刻有趣，该比赛成为全世界最受欢迎和认可的高中生英文论文比赛之一。John Locke论文竞赛受到英国各大院校的认可，是近几年社科类含金量最高的竞赛之一，在比赛中获得distinction可以大幅提升TOP院校的申请竞争力。
竞赛通常有7大论文主题，每个主题下有4道命题，参赛者需要任选其一，完成一篇不超过2000词的论文进行提交。七大主题为哲学、政治、经济、历史、心理、神学和法律。每个学科设有 winner(冠军） Second Prize(二等奖） Third Pride(三等奖），一般来说，学科类奖项获奖人数为一名。每个学科的最佳作品奖，将获得2000美元的奖学金；最佳论文的候选人将获得John Locke 学院荣誉青年奖学金。获得竞赛奖励在申请英国TOP院校本科时也非常有帮助，可以充分证明自己的学术实力。
任何国家的学生都可以参加。在截止提交日期2023年6月30日前，参赛者须在18岁或以下。少年奖的候选人必须在提交截止日期的14岁或以下。

评委会将根据论文所展现出的知识、理解水平、证据的有效使用、论证质量、结构、写作风格和说服力等方面进行评判。建议尽可能准确、直接地回答问题。
入围而未获奖者获得Very High Commendation 或者 High Commendation等奖项。
每个学科类别都设有最佳论文奖，每个类别的获胜者和少年组的获胜者（共八名）都将获得价值2,000美元的奖学金，作为参加约翰·洛克学院课程的费用。
论文将在约翰·洛克学院的网站上发表。颁奖典礼将在牛津举行，获奖者和亚军将与约翰·洛克学院的评委和其他教员见面，可以邀请亲人朋友来观礼。
在所有类别中获得最佳论文奖的参赛者（一名）将获得约翰·洛克研究所初级荣誉奖学金，价值1万美元，用于参加约翰·洛克暑期学校或 gap year 课程。
